The process unit is to separate 1,170 bbl/day (150 T/SD) of kerosene feed into 3 cuts in the 2-column distillation unit. These 3 streams are the top product; a heart cut Hydrocarbon Solvent and bottom product streams.
It is designed as a stand-alone unit with all products routed to tankage as a mixed stream, which enables the closed loop operation. As the unit is used as a training module, it would be shutdown and re start-up often. The unit consists of a main distillation column with a side stripper, a gas compressor, a heat transfer fluid system with fuel oil and fuel gas dual-burning mode, flare system, pigging system, feed, product and slop tankage, effluent drainage system and associated equipment.
The utilities system consists of fuel oil/fuel gas, cooling tower, nitrogen and instrument/plant air system. Utilities such as potable water, fuel gas, steam, potable water, High Grade Industrial Water (HGIW) and electrical power etc. required for KDU Plant are supplied from third' party service providers.
The Kerosene Distillation Unit (KDU) of Chemical Process Technology Centre was designed to contain, but not limited to, the following features:
- Safe operation and maintenance
- Minimum fire risk
- Meet the training requirement
- Reliable power supply to the Plant
- Facilitate cleaning, maintenance and repair
- Provision and flexibility for future expansion
- Simple operation and facilitate inspection
- Standardization of equipment and materials
The design incorporated every reasonable precaution and provision for safety of all those concerned, in the operation and maintenance of the equipment and plant. |
